End Of A Season

The end of a season
See the heart on fire
The love of a lifetime
That wasn't meant to be

The fire scorches edges
Already worn and weak
The heart's love cup simmers
Soon to be depleted

Fierce flames eat hungrily
Consuming love's passions
Melting it's golden cup
Never to be refilled

Ashes scatter and fall
Folded in the pond's arms
Pieces carried away
Some sink to murky depths

Never again complete
Nothing at all remains
The end of the season
That wasn't meant to be
