Praise God

Deep inside me, there's a terrified
little girl,
whose only mistake in life was
being born.
She didn't ask to be brought into
this world,
but because she's here, she must pay
the penalty.
 
She sleeps with her covers pulled over
her head,
after a few tears and a prayer sent 
to God.
But she's not safe not even in her 
restless sleep,
as she's reminded of the penalty she
must pay.
 
She struggles to hear the whispers of
the angels,
as they stand guard and try to lovingly
give comfort.
Try as she might only two words are
clearly heard-
She holds onto them with all her might-
