My Time With Jesus
I'm in the middle
of a familiar dream,
where but this time
there is no escape.
This time I must
face my deepest fear-
But why must I
do it in my sleep?
I listen hard for an answer
but none is forth coming.
Why is it I am brought here?
Who is it that has brought me?
My fear begins to mount as
I feel the now familiar presence.
No longer just a brilliant light,
it has taken a human form.
Suddenly tears clog my throat
As I slowly take in the figure I see.
Rotting sandals encasing bloody feet
under the ragged edges of his robe.
Blood encrusted hands are reaching
out as if offering me something.
Out of nowhere the thought comes
that he just wants to touch me.
My heart is in my throat as
I jump backwards and look up.
All I can see are weary eyes that
carry the pain of the world.
Please, no…please don’t touch me!
Being touched hurts in too many ways.
I uttered not a sound yet it was as if
he knew of the fear I couldn’t voice.
Painfully he lowered his beaten form
and sat just a few feet away.
Tears came to his eyes as he saw
I made no move to get closer.
He closed his eyes as tears began sliding
down upon a beaten and weathered face.
I see his lips, caked with dried blood,
move as he looks towards the heavens.
I watch his tears fall unchecked,
and realize that he’s praying for me!
Feelings swamp me as I drop to my knees,
and beg my Lord’s forgiveness.
He holds me tenderly but securely while I
lay sobbing in his loving arms.
He has no thoughts for himself or his pain.
He cradles me whispering words of love.
With a last hiccup I pull free of his arms,
and look into a radiantly smiling face.
I think I can see less pain in his eyes
and I think it’s because he helped me see.
There’s one touch I don’t have to fear.
It’s the touch of love from my Lord.
With his touch began the healing
which of indeed I was in need.
Touching now has special meaning to me.
I realize now how healing it can be.
Now it’s not something I’ll always fear.
I was healed by the touch of his love.
