The Gunman And The Poetress
Who would have thought...
Them...together
Warned about him
Him about her
He can't love you
Doesn't know how
Many chances
Gave up on him
He can love me
I'll teach him how
With God's guidance
Another chance
She's a nut case
Afraid of all
She's so homely
She makes dogs howl
But she loves me
She'll toughen up
See her inside
Gentle and warm
But he has killed
And will again
His forty-five
Is his best friend
But I believe
That he can change
His life the Lord
Can rearrange
But she is straight
And you are not
To laugh at life
She must be taught
She's a poetess
Inside and out
To work for God
Her goal in life
So the gunman
And the poetess
Sat together
And shared their fears
To take a chance
Was decided
Now years later
He's confiding
I don't love
But be my friend
I now see love
Has hit it's end
His heart is closed
If ever opened
Wish I'd listened
To those warnings
So now I pray
Lord catch my tears
Have I wasted
All of these years
He's answered me
Continue child
To love and care
Hold fast to me
Biting my tongue
Hiding my tears
I thank you Lord
For being near
