Exploring Compliments

Have you ever complimented a man
And watched him turn into a bashful boy
Watched the red heat as it crept up his face
As he stutters out a list of his faults

Many will bow their heads as if in shame
Draw circles with toes eyes bent to the ground
What makes a grown man react this way
When told he's admired and respected

And what makes your heart flutter in response
The heat indeed climbing into your face
As you stand there watching him "ahhh shuckin'
His pleasure all too evident to you

This side of him pulls you under a spell
Keeping you company at least in dreams
Burrows into the softness of your heart
A sweet treat soul and spirit feed upon

How many feelings have gone unexplored
In secret recesses of heart and mind
How many have explored but have not shared
Leaving themselves wondering...should they have
