Guided By Love
Crawling out from under a cardboard box
The young girl with chattering teeth shivered
Her home now nothing but soggy paper
From this she asked God to be delivered
She felt abandoned alone in the world
The streets quiet no footprints in the snow
The mission full because of the weather
By nightfall she must find a place to go
The sandals she wore were no protection
And her clothes though layered were far too thin
The wind howled as the snow cascaded down
Soon she was soaked all the way to her skin
The wet clothes hampered her way through snowdrifts
As she made her way towards the stand of Birch
Seeing the glow of the cross on the hill
She hoped shelter could be found at the church
Her hands stung as if holding red-hot coals
As she fell time and again in the snow
Her feet now frozen devoid of feeling
Her advancement was torturously slow
Collapsing at the foot of the church steps
She looked back the distance she had just walked
The path she’d taken now invisible
She said a prayer the church door wasn’t locked
As she tried to rise she found she couldn’t
Her eyes flooding tears ran down ashen cheeks
Then a voice clearly heard inside her heart
“The one that will find is the one that seeks”
Raising her voice in prayer she sought for strength
Thanked Him for a miracle not yet seen
Then slowly she once again gained her feet
Used her faith as a staff on which to lean
Slowly she stumbled her way to the door
And she prayed with every step she took
You see she believed in His promises
All of them written in His Holy book
Joy and contentment are her companions
As the church door swings easily open
At the alter on her knees she thanked him
For answering the prayers softly spoken
