You've sparked my imagination And my pen just wants to fly It's trying to write of our meeting Just the first for you and I
You picked me up on foot My favorite way to travel A smile played upon your face As you kicked at rocks in the gravel
I could see a memory Passing through your mind I'm glad it was the happy sort As they can be so hard to find
We talked of so many different things Much like friends that have lost touch I could've drowned in your sense of humor I know I have never laughed so much
I watched you pluck a blade of grass And thoughtfully begin to chew It made me burst out laughing As that's something I use to do
But grandpa once told me a story That I just bet you was true It was all about a puppy dog And what he put on what I chewed
I told you my grandpa's simple story And you made me laugh till I was blue My story made you spit out that blade of grass That you had so thoughtfully chewed
The evening came upon us And the sunset was all aglow We decided a picnic on the beach Would be the perfect way to go
I watched as you built a fire It felt so nice and toasty warm It added an intimacy to our evening And I admit my emotions were torn
I'm a very romantic soul at heart And with you I felt totally at ease I was happy just sitting there beside you As we listened to songs riding on the breeze
Watching the sparks from the fire And hearing the songs on the breeze I reached for my heart, my guitar, As an idea came that wouldn't let me be
I smiled at your puzzled look As I strummed the first few chords My mind was picturing the flying embers Going up to the fireplace of our Lord's
My imagination was on full tilt And I lifted my voice in a song "These aren't embers; they're really Angels And they have been with us all along
The warmth isn't from the fire Serenity isn't in the lapping tide The peace I have was given to me A gift from God I carry inside
I opened my eyes to see your smile And the picture you drew in the sand It was so obvious anyone could see it Jesus was holding the world in his hand
I instantly broke out laughing So much joy was bubbling inside I couldn't have a better time No matter how hard I tried
We had something solid to build on A common love of the Lord This knowledge erases many fears A new friendship can ill afford
You stood and gallantly helped me up Our hearts much lighter than before It wasn't long before we were sharing How each of us had knocked on his door
Everything was so very perfect The night, the setting, your hand in mine Conversation became so easy between us It seems my dreams come alive this time
I have finally met a man of God And he's not afraid to show his heart We have our love of Jesus in common Our friendship couldn't pray for a better start
There became a new freedom in us That allowed us to open up and share We found we had a lot in common With a difference thrown in here and there
Our goals were set on the same path Yet different approaches had been taken We had both thought ourselves loved before And both found ourselves to be mistaken
We left our picnic site to go strolling Hand in hand the sand between our toes Looking back it now seems funny how we Shared in almost whispers our highs and lows
When it got late the breeze turned crisp And you suggested going back to the fire I agreed but didn't want to admit That I too was beginning to tire
You stirred the fire and added wood While I poured out two glasses of wine Then you came and sat down beside me And your arm around me suited me just fine
Glasses half empty snug as two bugs in a rug I listened to you quote poetry you'd written WHAM BAM it all of a suddan hit me With you I had indeed become smitten
At that exact moment you tipped my head to yours And placed your lips sweetly over mine I blush to remember how long we stayed Sharing kisses, touching...forgetting time
We gave ourselves up to the moment And gave all that we possessed The ground shook and the sky exploded with color We rode the waves to their highest crests
It was in your arms I came to realize I'm not me anymore...I'm totally alive Together we've passed clouds and rainbows Your soul took mine and taught it to fly
Your loving is like your poetry Magic in every stroke of the artistic pen I think I could get so very use to Experiencing them both again and again
