THE QUEEN’S DIARY

The Battle…Part 1

I had gone to the North Tower
To look out over my vast land
My Knights had brought me the message
Of what the enemy had planned

I saw the cloud in the distance
Heard thunder before they appeared
Coming over the horizon
The deadly enemy we feared

We were ready for the battle
Villagers were all in their homes
Knights had been prepared for hours
Now waiting talking in hushed tones

The enemy looked impressive
There were way too many to count
They sat proudly on their horses
Some were on foot without a mount

They all stormed the walls endlessly
And the Knights fought with all their might
It seems they were destined to lose
The battle that they fought that night

My soldiers and Knights fought bravely
Out numbered at least ten to one
It was to be many hours
Before this battle would be done

With two of my Knights beside me
I watched the draw bridge lowered down
I could hear screams from the wounded
My clinching hands full of my gown

I felt tears well up in my eyes
Then slide silently down my face
A Knight gallantly stepped forward
Offered a hanky trimmed in lace

Below a voice shouted orders
They were orders to find the Queen
I was to be brought before him
The most evil man I had seen

Knowing his evil plans for me
Fear chased me as I looked around
The Knights didn't have to tell me
I wouldn't live if I were found

Queen’s Lair…Part 2

The King himself trained these two Knights
To protect his daughter and Queen
Then a secret room had been built
He reasoned we'd be safe unseen

The King fought in every battle
Had won every one but the last
After the King had been buried
The Queen faded away so fast

The last war was two years ago
In that battle many had died
They say the Queen died from her grief
She lays at rest at the King's side

Once a Princess now I'm their Queen
My safety is still the Knight's job
Soldiers were coming up the stairs
They sounded like an angry mob

Pulling on the scone on the wall
A Knight opened the secret door
Once inside another scone pulled
We couldn't hear the soldiers no more

Sir Greg, the eldest of my Knights
Lit two lanterns then looked around
It was cold behind the stone walls
Sir Fran’s brought me a cloak he'd found

As I child, I had played here
Sometimes for hours sometimes days
Only seven knew of this room
A secret they'd take to their graves

There was myself and my parents
And of course Sir Greg and Sir Fran’s
Then there was Barb from the kitchens
Who fit right in with the King's plans

And Patricia, the Queen's own maid
She and Barb were the best of friends
The most trusted of castle staff
With honesty that never bends

It was the Knights who named the room
Just to make the princess smile
They made up fantastic stories
To help her forget awhile

The secret room was the Queen's Lair
The best place in all of the land
Within it's walls magic was wove
While outside soldiers took their stand

Getting Ready…Part 3

Patricia and Barb were well liked
And each had a staff of her own
Most of them lived in the castle
Others came to work then went home

Rumors were spread in hushed whispers
Some said the Queen had run away
Still others said she had been killed
Along with her two knights that day

Evil men now ruled the castle
And controlled the whole village too
Laughter was a thing of the past
They were now slaves with much to do

Barb and Patricia were questioned
For a few days put under guard
Followed everywhere that they went
To get news to the Queen was hard

The two women had looked for ways
To keep the enemy amused
Entertainment, good food, and wine
Then while the drunken men snoozed

They would sneak to the North Tower
Spend precious moments with their Queen
The knights asked them many questions
About what they had heard and seen

Barb had chanced bringing a basket
It was filled to the top with food
Patricia brought each some clothing
Both put us in a better mood

After two weeks in the Queen's Lair
The knights began to make their plan
They had laid low for a reason
No one expected a dead man

Sir Fran’s took some risky chances
To leave the room to spread the word
The evil must leave our castle
Villagers joined in when they heard

Sir Greg had chosen to stay with me
As he'd promised his King he'd do
None would be allowed to harm me
He would do as he would have to

Uninvited Guests…Part 4

Now many men picked up their swords
And made ready to go to war
What they were living wasn't life
And they wouldn't take it no more

Wives no longer sang while cooking
Children were too sad and quiet
Food was scarce many went hungry
It was time to fight no denying it

It was early the next morning
Just as the sun rose in the sky
The door to Queen's Lair swung open
The knights awakened to my cry

There in the doorway were soldiers
They had learned of the secret room
Sirs' Greg and Fran’s fought gallantly
Sending some soldiers to their doom

But alas there were too many
And as I watched my two knights fall
Someone else came through the doorway
A tight squeeze being big and tall

Bending it's very large thick neck
And crouching as low as it could
The creature came into the room
All of us in shock where we stood

Beady little eyes studied us
As puffs of smoke came from it's nose
It's tail moved agitatedly
While the rest of it's body froze

Now I had heard tales of dragons
From brave soldiers back from battle
Fierce, aggressive, and dangerous
Just one could destroy the castle

When the dragon started towards me
It's eyes glowed with flaming red heat
As my heart slammed into my throat
I saw my knights had gained their feet

Everyone seemed to hold their breath
As the dragon stopped beside me
With head hung low it stared at them
Then did something you won't believe

Escape From Queen’s Lair…Part 5

This dragon turned and winked at me
Before rearing on it's back legs
Letting out the most fearsome shriek
Men ducked behind large water kegs

I couldn't believe my own ears
but I swear the dragon chuckled
It was then a soldier stepped up
He was big and strongly muscled

With just a mere flick of it's tail
The dragon had sent him flying
Landing right by the open door
Rushed through it in fear of dying

Many soldiers followed his lead
Soon all the soldiers were gone
They closed the door sealing us in me
My two knights, and the dragon

They had left us three there to die
But they were in for a surprise
As the door closed the dragon changed
It happened right before our eyes

Calmly sitting there before us
It's green scales turned a pretty pink
And as Sir Fran’s pulled me aside
We watched as it began to shrink

Little by little it changed form
Until magically she appeared
Patricia stood smiling at us
No longer the dragon we feared

She brushed off all our questions
And told us we better move fast
The soldiers would get their brothers
And be back to finish their task

She told us to run to the beach
The one to the left of the moat
She said there would be friends waiting
It's there we would find a small boat

She would go back to the castle
Pretend she knew nothing at all
One friend would know how to reach her
All she would have to do is call

We followed all her directions
Got to her friends and boat alright
Then a terrible thing happened
In a storm we capsized that night

Near Death Experience…Part 6

It had been warm in the Queen's Lair
But outside a storm was brewing
The winds blew fiercely against us
I questioned what we were doing

As we reached the beach I saw Barb
She was standing between two men
A boat was at the water's edge
Would I see my Kingdom again

The boat somewhat cozy for six
Bucked wildly upon the waves
If we couldn't outrun the storm
We could be lost at sea for days

The rain came down in large buckets
And soon we were drenched to the skin
Still the four men rowed us onward
It was then my prayers did begin

As lightening lit up the dark skies
What we hit I could never tell
But the boat filled up with water
And into the ocean we fell

I tried to draw a breath of air
Swallowing water made me choke
Feeling myself being pulled down
By the weight of my gown and cloak

On the verge of just giving up
I felt my cloak grabbed from behind
Pulled so quickly to the surface
I was sure I had lost my mind

I looked into eyes I trusted
And a face I knew so well
But instead of having two legs
My dearest friend Barb had a tail

Ignoring my stunned expression
She pulled me in close to the shore
By the time I had gained my feet
I couldn't see her anymore

Sir Greg came to help me to land
Where the others stood on the beach
Had I been hallucinating
Had death been so close within reach

Barb was standing there on the sand
And she was standing on two feet
Meeting her eyes she winked at me
I found a log and took a seat

First Patricia was a dragon
Then Barb a mermaid of the sea
I wondered what would happen next
And who my rescuer might be

Decision Time…Part 7

Before I looked towards my friends
I don't know how long I sat there
Sir Fran’s and Sir Greg were talking
While Barb pulled seaweed from my hair

A forest stretched far behind us
The ground looked dry under the trees
There at least we would be sheltered
We couldn't just sit there and freeze

Having come to this decision
I had just risen to my feet
When Sir Fran’s appeared beside me
But it was Sir Greg's eyes I'd meet

I had never noticed before
So it had to be something new
You see I'd known him for years
And his eyes were the clearest blue

So how on earth could this happen
It's was the strangest thing I'd seen
No one could change their eye color
From clear blue to the brightest green

Standing there lost in my own thoughts
I hadn't heard a word he said
Trying to figure some things out
That were jumbled up in my head

Trying to focus on his words
Which the wind whipped back in his face
I leaned closer in my efforts
He said we must move from this place

To cut a path through the forest
The two knights had gone ahead
They'd been gone at least two hours
Should have been back by now he said

Waves were crashing against the beach
Rain poured and wind picked up speed
Quickly we moved towards the forest
Gladly following Sir Greg's lead

The knights helped us ladies along
Walking the path the soldiers cut
Soon we were out of wind and rain
And standing before a small hut

A Foul Change…Part 8

Sir Fran's said he'd been here before
And the hut hadn't been there then
Barb had gone to knock on the door
With no answer she knocked again

The hut didn't look inviting
In fact it worsened my shivers
The roof was a carpet of moss
Touch the wood and you'd have slivers

Barb was looking a bit upset
Still no one had answered the door
And I must admit it myself
I too found myself feeling poor

I enjoyed tales of adventure
But I wasn't enjoying this
I was cold, hungry, and frightened
The boredom at Queen's Lair was bliss

Sir Fran's had gone around the hut
To check for another way in
Sir Greg had been strangely quiet
And wouldn't meet my eyes again

I realized how tired I was
waiting for Sir Fran's to come back
I was leaning against a tree
when the hut's door opened a crack

Seeing the light through the thin crack
I had high hopes of food and heat
I was really needing to bathe
and curious who we would meet

Barb's face lit up in a smile
But it wasn't to last for long
A fowl odor came through the crack
My stomach heaved it was so strong

Leaning weakly against the tree
Losing the ocean I'd swallowed
Barb had come quickly to my side
And I saw that Sir Greg followed

It hadn't been a trick of light
his eyes were again glowing green
Looking at his ears and his nose
there were changes I hadn't seen

Alter Ego…Part 9

Before our disbelieving eyes
Barb and I watched changes take place
Sir Greg’s hair was growing longer
As were the whiskers on his face

His ears were becoming pointed
And his hands were gnarled and old
Soon obvious he was shrinking
I no longer shivered from cold

My fear mounted as I watched him
I was standing speechless with fright
Barb started screaming for Sir Fran’s
But he appeared no where in sight

Changes continued to happen
Sir Greg as we knew him was gone
If Sir Fran’s had entered the hut
what was it taking him so long

Now Sir Greg had started laughing
And it was the most evil sound
Barb had placed herself between us
And picked a stick up off the ground

Sir Greg now stood just three feet tall
And he looked at Barb’s stick and laughed
Next thing she knew she held a snake
The stick had changed through witchcraft

Dropping it quickly with horror
And watching as it hit the ground
The wooden snake slithered away
And was soon nowhere to be found

Sir Greg and Barb had now squared off
And I felt great fear for my friend
Not caring for her own safety
It was me she tried to defend

Sir Greg laughing as if amused
Twirled ‘round in a circle three times
Hocus Pocus Domin Ocus
And of him there weren’t any signs

The forest was dark as midnight
The only light came from the hut
The door had opened wider now
We didn’t know by who or what

Who’s There…Part 10

We made our way close to the hut
And we tried not to make a sound
We weren’t sure what we’d run into
Or if Sir Fran’s was still around

We had found the one small window
There’s no way he could have got through
Standing below it listening
There’s more then one voice, there’s two

One of the voices a stranger’s
Sounded like that of a young girl
Looking at Barb I saw her smile
Heard her say it’s her “kitchen pearl”

Now Barb was looking excited
“Best little helper in the land”
The kitchen staff called her Maggie
And was her second in command

Said she trusted her completely
That she had known her for years
And Patricia knew her also
This knowledge helped quiet my fears

The second voice was familiar
But I couldn’t place it at first
Then suddenly it came to me
I was so thrilled I almost burst

Turning and moving towards the door
I was surprised when Barb stopped me
She said that we were being tricked
That the voice couldn’t be Cindy

I was convinced friends were inside
But I saw Barb meant what she said
I thought it wise to listen up
Without her help I’d now be dead

And if Cindy were in the hut
What harm could it possibly make
If we waited just to be sure
We couldn’t afford a mistake

Promising to stay beside her
Cautiously we approached the door
The tiny hairs on my neck stood high
Then out of both our throats screams tore

Abandoned…Part 11

There before our terrified eyes
What we saw couldn’t be denied
There sat the two missing soldiers
Their heads on the ground at their side

In front of them with dripping sword
Our own gallant knight Sir Fran’s stood
Behind him stood gnome-like Sir Greg
He wore a black Grim Reaper’s hood

Maggie and Cindy were there too
And looked as if they’d been crying
Caught, but they had tried to escape
The ropes were bloody from trying

How they got there we didn’t know
Someone had tied them back to back
How long had they tried to break free
The strength it took they seemed to lack

Not knowing what had happened here
But shocked by all that we could see
When I finally glanced her way
Barb was no longer beside me

Panicking I ran from the hut
Saw Barb disappear through the trees
I was trying to follow her
When I heard the sounds on the breeze

It was loud and melodious
And had a strange unearthly ring
Arriving at the water’s edge
I stopped and listened to her sing

I was puzzled by her actions
As I watched her swim out to sea
I sunk to my knees in the sand
I couldn’t believe she’d left me

I sat there in the rain and wind
Numb from shock not feeling the cold
I’m not sure how long I sat there
But not long I was later told

I listened as her song grew faint
After she disappeared from sight
I wished she’d come back for me
I wished it with all of my might

Friends Return…Part 12

Eyes seeking to see past shadows
Ears reaching for a hint of song
It was never far from my mind
They would come searching before long

I couldn’t think for need of food
All I could do was sit and stare
Trying to figure it all out
And I wasn’t getting nowhere

So many thoughts went through my mind
Could I help Cindy and Maggie
Or have they already escaped
The evil Sir Greg’s treachery

Why were the soldiers beheaded
What had happened to dear Sir Greg
How would we get out of this mess
So many thoughts did my mind nag

I’m not sure how long I sat there
It was maybe an hours time
When out of the skies I heard it
A song that was all done in rhyme

At first it was just a whisper
Carried in Mother Nature’s hand
As it got louder and clearer
I rose from my throne in the sand

I failed so miserably
Trying not to let my hopes rise
I sent a quick prayer up to God
While my eyes were searching the skies

At first it was just an outline
Of something flying in the sky
It flew at incredible speed
And it was up there very high

As I watched it circle lower
It became evident to me
It was a creature with rider
And both were well known to me

Patricia landed so smoothly
In spite of the wind and the rain
Barb sat high upon her broad back
Now to plan our freedom to gain

Only One Word…Part 13

Now Patricia is sensible
She looked me sternly up and down
Dripping wet and stuttering cold
Wet sand and earth covered my gown

My arms had been scratched by branches
Twigs were stuck oddly in my hair
My slippers had all but vanished
My gown had more then just one tear

Shaking her head she led us back
To the forest from which we’d fled
I didn’t want to go back there
I did so with a sense of dread

Patricia had me stand by Barb
Then taking a few steps away
Blew softly in our direction
Her breath sweet as flowers in May

Gradually my shivering stopped
Minutes later our clothes were dry
My hair no longer hung damply
Such relief felt it made me cry

Matter of factly, taking charge
Patricia said she had to change
And as Barb and I stood watching
Her shape began to rearrange

In one continuous movement
The changes began to occur
It was for just a brief moment
We watched all her sharp edges blur

Then there she was in clean dry clothes
And looking quite pleased with herself
It seemed Patricia had learned things
And it was now she shared her wealth

In a quiet voice she whispered
She told of a spell that was cast
With no magic spell to break it
No telling how long it could last

Barb said she had heard some rumors
The evil spell could be broken
The secret to lifting the spell
Only one word need be spoken

Stunning Entrance…Part 14

It’s a big word that carries wealth
But useless used without sharing
It’s magic felt in many ways
jam packed full of someone caring

It’s known as the strongest magic
not needing to be stirred or cooked
Magic that could bring peace to all
much too often it’s overlooked

Barb’s idea sounded simple
To give this magic as a gift
If it were to be accepted
Evil magic to good would shift

We made our way through the forest
Trying hard not to make a sound
We would need to have our plans made
Before he knew we were around

First we must see what had happened
In the time that we’d been away
Had Sir Fran’s rescued the ladies
We must find out no more delay

Only one of us must approach
And appear as if all alone
There was really no choice to make
To save our Kingdom and our home

Mother Nature hid Barb and I
In her lush garden full of green
As Patricia walked towards the hut
Barb and I would remain unseen

She ran across the small clearing
Then safely under the window
Up on tip toes she peered inside
What she saw her face didn’t show

Suddenly Patricia stepped back
As she did she began to grow
Soon she was again a dragon
And this time fire she did blow

Something seen had made her angry
She was in a fit to be tied
It was just mere moments later
Through the hut’s wall she went inside

Fired Up Dragon / Part 15

Now unsure of what to do next
Barb and I glanced at one another
Patricia, an army of one
And she didn’t need no other

Brave warriors had learned to fear her
And all my Knights thought her just grand
She just had this way about her
Of destroying each evil plan

While we’d been thinking this over
Patricia was doing her thing
She was grabbing their attention
The gift it was now time to bring

Hesitatingly approaching
Not sure what our welcome would be
We watched the hut’s door swing open
The whole thing was kind of creepy

The hut was a total shambles
Pieces of wood were everywhere
Poor Maggie and Cindy still sat
Looking like they’d had quite a scare

The two soldiers sat as before
But Patricia took care of that
When he saw what the results were
The evil gnome got mad and spat

While Barb and I stood watching her
She smiled, pointed, and whispered
A thick gray cloud accompanied
The magic words that no one heard

It was just a moment later
We heard their voices through the cloud
They were praising the saints that be
And they were doing it so loud

Sir Fran’s stood beside Patricia
Glad for all the help that she gave
Help was needed to fight the gnome
So that they could the ladies save

Patricia wouldn’t fight Sir Greg
It was fighting that got us here
It was time to give him the gift
To turn him back into a dear

Gnome Or Sir Greg/Part 16

Patricia had a plan in mind
But first she had to clear the room
She must concentrate on the gnome
If not it could mean certain doom

She told us all to leave the hut
Take Cindy and Maggie along
She was concerned for their safety
In case the plans she had went wrong

The soldiers untied the ladies
And saw them safely from the hut
As soon as Sir Fran’s stepped outside
The door magically slammed shut

Now Patricia smiled broadly
As if this suited her plans well
She just might need some extra help
If Sir Greg were under a spell

The gnome was laughing evilly
As he uttered a wicked chant
To make us fight one another
But with the gift we share he can’t

Sputtering and spitting rudely
The gnome scratched his chin and pondered
All of a sudden he’s Sir Greg
Was it really him we wondered

Now Sir Greg smiled at us all
And told us that the gnome was gone
Something told Patricia he lied
Her guess had been right all along

This evil gnome wasn’t Sir Greg
His eyes had given him away
But until they found their dear friend
The evil gnome’s game they must play

Barb and I welcomed him warmly
We too had noticed his green eyes
He asked Patricia to change form
Believing she swallowed his lies

She said she would be happy to
She’d guessed from where his power came
If they could all just step outside
She would change the rules to his game

The Queen’s Diary/Finding Sir Greg/Part 17

This the gnome hadn’t expected it
Wiped the smile from his face
Had this she dragon somehow guessed
What happened if he left this place

Knowing he had to think quickly
He seemed to wilt before our eyes
Looking tired in need of rest
Just another of evil’s lies

It really was hard not to laugh
At the show he was putting on
We knew this was an evil gnome
And wondered where Sir Greg had gone

Patricia had been thinking hard
About how to get him out the door
Once outside we’d offer the gift
So he would harm no one no more

Now she smiled at him sweetly
As she offered her assistance
She would carry him on her back
But she met with his resistance

Barb stepped forward to add her voice
And the gnome looked near to panic
His hands had started trembling
Looked as if he were feeling sick

Now knowing when he was beaten
He once again became the gnome
Asking where I could find Sir Greg
He looked around his one room home

“Take a candle it’s dark as night
Below me you’ll find stairs of three
Tied up and out of uniform
This is where your Sir Greg will be”

Standing up the gnome moved aside
Then moved the chair and then the rug
Patricia declared she’d wait there
As the door opened with Barb’s tug

Finding Sir Greg as the gnome said
Shivering in his underwear
Helping him back up the three stairs
To give some tender loving care

The Queen’s Diary/Gift Offering/Part 18

Barb and I wasted no time talking
Sitting Sir Greg down in a chair
Rushing to collect warm blankets
And wrapped them around him with care

Noticing the hut’s fireplace laid
With wood and ready to light
Patricia just blew on it
The results a most welcome sight

Moving Sir Greg closer to warmth
Patricia asked about his clothes
The gnome then snickered evilly
Saying, “Only my mistress knows”

Patricia’s tail started moving
Her agitation clear to see
This evil gnome had a mistress
We didn’t know who it might be

Blazing red eyes burning bright
This dragon worried him a bit
She looked mad enough to roast him
His own powers had a limit

As Patricia moved towards the gnome
Sir Greg finally found his voice
“I know what form his mistress took
And you wouldn’t believe her choice”

With this he caught her attention
Stopping, she waited to hear more
It seemed they’d made a big mistake
They’d helped her walk right out the door

I had finally heard enough
And stepped forward to speak my mind
Now was the time to offer him
The greatest gift that we could find

I spoke to him softly; gently
Said I wanted to be his friend
And that if we stuck together
We could put evil to an end

The gnome seemed to study my eyes
Wanting to trust me but afraid
All of a sudden he smiled
The gnome’s decision had been made

The Queen’s Diary/The Mistress/Part 19

The gnome reasoned he was quite old
His magic had once been the best
He still remembered a few spells
But he’d forgotten all the rest

Then he said something else to me
It brought tears it was so tragic
He said he’d never had a friend
But heard that they worked great magic

Stepping closer I hugged him close
I could feel him tense in my arms
Ever so slowly he relaxed
As he fell pray to friendship’s charms

Patricia was surprised but pleased
That the gnome wanted to be friends
But now she needed some answers
It’s now that the hard part begins

He asked us to call him “Lone Gnome”
And he said that we must beware
Going outside would get us killed
His mistress was sure to be there

She had no magical powers
It was through fear that she controlled him
The vastness of her army
Gave chances of getting away slim

Barb asked about her weaknesses
Lone Gnome said she had only one
Somewhere inside she has a heart
And of friendship it’s tasted none

Patricia knew what must be done
But one more question must be asked
Turning, Patricia asked Sir Greg
Under which face was evil masked

She took the form of our angel
The real Cindy was never here
The evil mistress brought Maggie
The reason why wasn’t yet clear

It was time to face his mistress
To win her over with friendship
Then we’d head back to the castle
We’d have to go by air this trip

The Queen’s Diary/Plan Of Action/ Part 20

Sir Greg had stopped his shivering
But he was still in need of clothes
Lone Gnome pointed towards a small cot
“Stuffed behind a couple pillows”

While getting dressed Sir Greg pondered
The gnome said she had no powers
How could she take another’s form
And keep it for many hours

Tying his boots then standing up
He put this question to the gnome
Lone Gnome was scared but he replied
“From her master who’s on the throne”

He told of a mighty wizard
That had come from another land
Had it on good authority
Evil is all he understands

Patricia had an idea
And for help she went to Lone Gnome
She needed use of his magic
Or no one would make it back home

He said he’d be happy to help
But alas, he could never leave
His magic only worked from there
That’s what he was led to believe

She had Lone Gnome cook a potion
That turned Sir Greg into a gnome
Barb was changed into royalty
The evil that sat on the throne

And I was made invisible
The story was I had escaped
Patricia laid down on the floor
It was to be her death she faked

Lone Gnome hid under the small cot
It was his job not to be found
He knew that for their plan to work
From him there best not be a sound

Now Barb opened the door up wide
And just stood there with hands on hips
She tried to look real menacing
An ugly snarl on her lips

The Queen’s Diary/Related/Part 21

We gathered to look out the door
None too eager to step outside
I wanted to be like Lone Gnome
Allowed to stay inside and hide

Maggie was sitting on a log
Laughing at something Sir Fran’s said
Troubles aside for a moment
Seeing where light flirtation led

On the far side of the clearing
Were the two soldiers and Cindy
We saw her pacing back and forth
While the soldiers stood nervously

Not sure if they should speak or not
They had both felt her wrath before
And almost looked relieved when she
Trained her eyes on the open door

Barb put on the act of her life
Knowing she appeared as a man
They must somehow get her inside
To give her the gift if they can

Barb ordered her inside briskly
But she wasn’t easily fooled
Trust wasn’t one of the classes
In which the evil have been schooled

Narrowing her eyes Barb faced her
And wearing a most vicious scowl
Gritted her teeth and stared real hard
Lowered her voice to a fierce growl

Once again, she made the demand
And this time Cindy’s look-a-like
Jumped to do as she had been told
Being motivated by fright

Maggie, Sir Fran’s, and the soldiers
Rushed as if to follow her in
Barb moved aside to allow this
This is one battle they must win

Maggie ran straight to Patricia
And Sir Fran’s stayed right at her side
The soldiers stayed by their mistress
This worried me I must confide

The young mistress stared hard at Barb
Then demanded in a loud voice
“Why have you come here my father?
To rule the Queen’s lands was your choice.”

Homeward Bound/Part 23

Eyeing her hand suspiciously
Evil mistress hesitated
Alone, she couldn’t fight them all
And in her mind she debated

If she refused she’d be left here
No way back to civilized land
Having no way to warn father
About what the enemy planned

Smiling, she took the offered hand
“My name is Selena” she said
Patricia, not born yesterday
Knew what went on in the girl’s head

Now Lone Gnome was still in hiding
Heard all the plans that they now made
Was growing uncomfortable
In the cramped space where he now laid

When Barb had asked what he wanted
It was his space he seemed to lack
Patricia promised by nightfall
He’d have his little hut back

Soon they were all leaving the hut
With plans to build some type of raft
He listened to Selena’s lies
And inside he silently laughed

If she thought she was fooling them
She sure had a surprise coming
Patricia had earned his respect
And she was a lot more cunning

Logs were tied together using
A rope made from sturdy vines
The raft sure wasn’t pretty with
The logs different sizes and kinds

Patricia once more a dragon
Took four of us upon her back
Sir Frans, Barb, myself, and Sir Greg
Room on the raft the rest didn’t lack

The raft’s rope tied around her girth
Patricia took off flying low
When we reached land it was nightfall
For the raft’s safety, she’d flown slow

The Wars Begun/Part 24

Patricia landed on the beach
With only a whisper of sound
There was one more thing we must do
Soon as the raft was pulled aground

We knew that Selena had plans
And we knew they couldn’t be good
Were sure she would warn her father
The very first moment she could

She would have to be left behind
And someone would have to guard her
Maggie’s home was just up the beach
“I’ll go get help from my brother”

So Maggie went and fetched Sir Bob
Another true and trusted knight
Trust him not to come back alone
He and others a welcome sight

The village hadn’t given up
And they filled us in on the news
The evil master picked a bride
And Danielle would fill the Queen’s shoes

The ceremony would occur
On the night of the next full moon
Now we had to make some new plans
And get them under way real soon

The three knights would work together
To bring down the evil master
Patricia offered her help too
To get to the castle faster

All of our help was now needed
As the master’s army was vast
This was the war that we must win
To make this all part of our past

Patricia, Barb, and I made haste
To complete our part in the plan
We were to get his attention
And confront the large evil man

Soon we were inside the castle
And we were spotted right away
The guards came rushing right at us
It had begun now come what may

Fooling Evil/Part 25

So quickly were we surrounded
Just as soon as we had been seen
Soldiers sent word to the master
Told him they had captured the Queen

Word of this raced through the castle
The news was on everyone’s lips
Many soldiers had left their posts
And in our favor the scale tips

The castle walls left unguarded
Knights and villagers now climbed them
The master’s soldiers all gathered
To death I was to be condemned

Ordered to be brought before him
We were taken to the throne room
Danielle sat stiffly on his left
Looking terrified of her groom

Now the master called for silence
Snarling with his hands on his hips
His stance of intimidation
Brought silence from everyone’s lips

Slowly walking down the wide steps
His eyes never leaving my face
He offered me one chance to live
And to take back my rightful place

I knew I had to play for time
Somehow it was left up to me
I must play along with his game
If my Kingdom were to be free

So I asked him to tell me more
And pretended there was a chance
I batted my eyes and flirted
As I watched him slowly advance

His eyes were glowing wickedly
You could see he thought he had won
Poor Danielle was looking hopeful
Wanting her role as his Queen done

Thinking he had what he wanted
He had changed his menacing tone
Reaching my side he took my arm
And walked with me back towards the throne

Who Trapped Who/Part 26

Patricia looked so astounded
And Barb stood there with tearful eyes
Did they believe I’d turned evil
Did they think I’d believe his lies
The master told Danielle to leave
But to stay where she could be found
If I refused my rightful place
Then by the ‘morrow she’d be crowned

Before she rose and left the room
Danielle looked at me nervously
Trying to look mean I told her
“This throne was meant only for me!”

The master started laughing now
He really believed he had won
He had a big surprise coming
Before it was all said and done

I had just sat upon the throne
When chaos broke out in the hall
Knights and villagers had arrived
Now the reign of evil would fall

My three knights charged into the room
Holding their swords at the ready
Villagers followed on their heels
And the master looked real angry

Grabbing my arm he pulled me up
Stood behind me like a wee lad
It was then and there that he proved
He was a very evil cad

Hauling me up close against him
He used my body as a shield
My knights were on the staircase now
And they were not about to yield

The master started whispering
His breath was tickling my ear
Hearing him chant his evil spell
I tried to hide my growing fear

Meeting the eyes of Patricia
I knew she knew I was afraid
Had we all walked into a trap
A trap the master neatly laid

Friendship Brings Peace/Part 27

The master’s tone was excited
As he whispered his evil chant
I want to leave his tight embrace
And become afraid when I can’t

Now Patricia’s looking angry
Her eyes have grown small and red
Her temper may get out of hand
Been awhile since she’s been fed

As I blinked I almost missed it
It really happened just that fast
Patricia has changed to dragon
The knights moved quickly as she passed

Quick as lightning were her movements
Yet graceful in a swan like way
The master quickly let me go
Pulled out his sword without delay

Patricia merely laughed at him
As her tail swept him off his feet
She taunted him with how it felt
Facing a future that looked bleak

His daughter then ran up the stairs
And she knelt at her father’s side
Not use to seeing him like this
She pushed into his arms and cried

Barb was the next to step forward
And as she started up the stair
The master’s soldiers didn’t move
Stood looking like they didn’t dare

Standing beside Barb I watched her
Kneel on the floor next to evil
She talked of friendship and love too
And cease of all this upheaval

At first they both looked untrusting
But as Barb continued to talk
A change stole over their faces
As everyone looked on in shock

Accepting the gift of friendship
Now brought this battle to it’s end
The day we prayed for had arrived
Peace reigned in my Kingdom again

Bet you thought it was never going to end???
You’re right! This was a new beginning...
