Twenty-Four Hours With Bob
I had just twenty-four hours
To make a certain dream come true
And I know it’s not a surprise
To anyone that I picked you
We start by setting our watches
One hour ahead should be fine
The last hour much more precious
Then the ones that we leave behind
Our time started Saturday noon
And the day was bright and sunny
I was really so excited
Butterflies were in my tummy
Being the gentleman you are
You let me pick the place we’d start
We went to Seattle’s hot spot
Pike Place Market’s close to my heart
I played my guitar and you sang
With the guitar case at our feet
Many threw coins into the case
Finding your accent a rare treat
The next place we went was your choice
Laughing you chose Woodland Park Zoo
Once we’d fed all the animals
We flew the kite you’d brought with you
Children watched as we ran along
The kite flying high as the trees
The Lord had blessed our kite flying
And laughter was heard on the breeze
Giving the kite to some children
We ate from the basket I’d brought
Potato salad and chicken
Washed down with iced tea hit the spot
With the sun up high in the sky
After eating lunch we relaxed
And sat back and talked for awhile
Sharing about our lives some facts
Finding many things in common
We shared both our hopes and our dreams
Praying we thanked God together
He’s strengthened our friendship it seems
Late afternoon we’re off again
And I’ve a treat in store for you
Off to the Seattle Center
To do something I love to do
The Space Needle loomed before us
I laughed at the look on your face
This alone made it so worth it
Showing you my favorite place
Leading me to a photo booth
And laughing as the curtain’s drawn
Memories are saved in pictures
Forever captured for a song
After looking at exhibits
The elevator took us down
I saw you looking at your watch
And your smile turned to a frown
Taking a peek at my own watch
I caught my breath in my surprise
With only a few hours left
It would soon be time for goodbyes
Wishing to take away your frown
I thought hard a moment or two
I tried to think of that something
That you might like the most to do
Sharing with you my idea
A true smile lit up your eyes
Soon we were on the Monorail
Watching stars pop out in the skies
Our destination arrived at
A delighted chuckle from you
And I’m so glad I remembered
What you said that you loved to do
Walking through the door arm in arm
Just in time for the band to start
Country music envelops us
With a sweet song from someone’s heart
We find a table order wine
Eyes meeting over the candle
Friendship shared my heart feels such joy
Almost more then I can handle
Standing before me you bow low
Merriment dancing in your eyes
“Dance with a mere Knight RainbowQueen?”
And again, I feel butterflies
You give my hand a gentle squeeze
Smile, than pull me into your arms
Dancing me onto the dance floor
Using some of your Knightly charms
Our steps in perfect harmony
You look down at me in surprise
You didn’t expect this from me
My joy in this wasn’t disguised
Your steps grew bolder I matched them
Even steps known only to you
Seeing your happiness shinning
The thing I most wanted to do
Our watches chime together now
It’s almost time to bid goodbye
Something I don’t want to happen
That’s no joke, nor is it a lie
But the minutes keep on ticking
Moments turned to memories past
I guess I’m just being selfish
Wanting just this moment to last
In fifteen minutes you’ll be gone
Taxi already at the door
Wonder if I ask God nicely
Could I gain a few minutes more
My heart considers the idea
But a deal is a deal I say
I didn’t say I must like it
Within my own rules I must stay
One more dance tucked close to your heart
Then I won’t use the words “good-bye”
To my over the pond friendship
“Tomorrow again, we’ll say, “Hi””
