My Mother

My mother died awhile back
I was there to hold her hand
I don’t know whom it hurt the most-
It wasn’t what neither of us had planned

My mother scolded, ranted, and raved
From the family I had been banned
But my sisters and brother had called me-
It wasn’t what neither of us had planned

My mother began gasping for air
And she tightly squeezed my hand
I could see the words there in her eyes-
It wasn’t what neither of us had planned

My mother died awhile back
I was there to hold her hand
I don’t know whom it hurt the most-
It wasn’t what neither of us had planned
